AI Chat

The AI Chat feature lets you ask questions about your transcripts in plain English. Instead of manually searching, just ask what you want to know.

Accessing Chat

Click Chat in the sidebar (or navigate to /chat) to open the chat interface.

The Chat Interface

Left Sidebar: Chat History

Your previous conversations are saved here:
  • New Chat - Start a fresh conversation
  • Recent sessions - Click to continue a past conversation
  • Session titles - Auto-generated from your first message

Main Area: Conversation

This is where you interact with the AI:
  • Type your question in the input box
  • Press Enter or click Send
  • The AI responds with answers sourced from your transcripts

Filters Button

Click Filters to narrow what the AI searches:
  • Date range - Only look at calls from specific dates
  • Speakers - Focus on specific participants
  • Categories - If you’ve tagged calls, filter by category
  • Specific calls - Select particular recordings to query

Add Context

Click Add context to attach specific calls to your question:
  1. A dialog opens showing your calls
  2. Select one or more calls
  3. The AI will focus its answers on those transcripts

@ Mentions

You can also use @ in the input box to quickly attach calls:
  1. Type @ in your message
  2. An autocomplete menu appears with your calls
  3. Select a call to attach it as context
  4. Continue typing your question
This is faster than using the Add Context button when you know the call name.

Example Questions

The AI can answer questions like: Finding Information
  • “What did John say about the pricing?”
  • “Find mentions of competitor products”
  • “When did we discuss the timeline?”
Summarizing
  • “Summarize last week’s sales calls”
  • “What were the main objections raised?”
  • “Give me highlights from calls with Acme Corp”
Analysis
  • “What topics came up most in demos?”
  • “List action items from yesterday’s meetings”
  • “Who mentioned needing faster support?”

How It Works

When you ask a question:
  1. CallVault searches your transcripts using hybrid search (keyword + semantic)
  2. Relevant transcript chunks are found
  3. The AI reads those chunks and formulates an answer
  4. Sources are cited so you know where the info came from
For best results, index your transcripts first. Go to Settings > Integrations and click “Index Transcripts” to enable semantic search.

Model Selection

Click the model selector to choose which AI model powers your chat.

Available Models

ModelBest For
GPT-4o-miniFast responses, everyday questions (default)
GPT-4.1Higher quality, complex analysis
Claude 3.5 SonnetBest quality, nuanced understanding

Choosing a Model

  • Speed over quality - Use GPT-4o-mini for quick lookups
  • Important analysis - Use GPT-4.1 or Claude for detailed work
  • Complex questions - Claude 3.5 Sonnet often gives the best answers
You can change models mid-conversation. Your chat history is preserved.
You can set a default model in Settings > AI. Add your own API key to use your own quota.

Session Management

Conversations are saved automatically and appear in the left sidebar.

Session Features

  • Auto-save - Close the tab and come back later; your history is preserved
  • Auto-titles - Sessions get titles based on your first message
  • Pin sessions - Keep important conversations at the top of your list
  • Archive sessions - Hide old conversations without deleting them
  • Delete sessions - Remove conversations you no longer need

Managing Sessions

Right-click on a session in the sidebar (or use the menu) to:
  • Pin/unpin the session
  • Archive/unarchive the session
  • Delete the session
Pin sessions for ongoing projects or clients you reference frequently. Archive completed topics to keep your sidebar clean.

Tips for Better Results

  1. Be specific - “What did Sarah say about pricing in the Acme demo?” works better than “pricing info”
  2. Use filters - Narrow the search window for more relevant answers
  3. Add context - Attach specific calls when you know where the info is
  4. Follow up - Ask clarifying questions in the same session
  5. Index transcripts - Semantic search improves accuracy significantly

Limitations

  • The AI can only search transcripts that are synced and indexed
  • Very recent calls may not be immediately searchable
  • Long transcripts may be chunked, so some context between chunks might be missed
